DR MALCOLM W ROBSON PhD, BSc, C.Chem, FRSC, FIMLS, SRMLS

 

The YSI 1500 and 2300 Analysers are used to measure the lactate levels during the training of many competitive swimmers.  Our Consultant at YSI, Dr Malcolm W Robson. is one of the world experts in the field of Sports Medicine and in particular, lactate testing.  He has published many articles on the use of lactate testing applied to training, especially swimming.

Dr Robson obtained a BSc in Chemistry in 1969 at Durham University, followed by a PhD in Biochemistry in 1974.  Dr Robson then spent 9 years in the Royal Army Corps as a Specialist Biochemist/Clinical Chemist dealing with pathology and fitness assessment of Army staff and recruits.  After leaving the Army, Dr Robson became a Technical Executive working in a commercial capacity for analytical instrument companies.  During this time he also lectured on the accuracy and precision of blood testing, physiology, planning and performance diagnostics.

Dr Robson has also been personally involved with the training programmes and lactate testing of members of the GB Olympic long-distance swimming team and is very proud of their medal achievements in the Beijing Olympics. 

YSI can therefore offer with our instrumentation, any help deemed necessary by the coach, physiologist or technician, to interpret blood lactate results to correlate with training, for the benefit of the sports person being tested.
